Make a New Year’s Resolution to improve your kid’s health
As New Year’s Eve approaches, many parents are making resolutions to help improve their child’s health in the new year, helping them to stay fit with a healthy diet and plenty of exercise. Experts believe that an improved diet with less fatty, sugary food can help to reduce child obesity levels, along with increased levels of exercise. However, exercise can be difficult during the winter months, with the cold weather and snow putting even the hardiest children off the outdoors.
Exercise has many benefits which includes the improvement of mental health, stress reduction and keeping weight at a healthy level. Keeping children interested in physical activity can be a challenge for many parents and carers, especially in winter when there is less daylight and far less opportunity to get out and about.
Although computer games and consoles are often blamed for the inactivity of kids, some can actually encourage physical exercise. Sports and fitness activity can become an enjoyable part of a daily routine for all the family to participate in, especially if you are in the warmth of your home using an interactive game. Having fun whilst taking part in activities will make it much easier to keep to a kid’s exercise programme.
If it snows, take advantage and go outside for a snowball fight or to build a snowman. Even the shortest time outdoors can help improve activity levels whilst having fun. If you live close to a ski centre, spend the day skiing at a specialist centre where the whole family can join in the fun. Many other leisure centres have discounts at certain times, or for students so that you can take part in a game of squash or go swimming.
Children who enjoy dancing may enjoy a cheerleader class or other dancing activity. There are also interactive games which encourage dance, keeping young and old alike active. There are many ways to stay active and healthy in the cold winter months without having to spend huge amounts of money or even venture out into the cold. Even a small amount of daily exercise will help to improve your kid’s health, providing many benefits.
